I am participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes to raise funds to advance type 1 diabetes research.
I chose the team name EradiKate T1D because I want to fight and destroy this disease! Our very first walk last year raised over $6500.
EradiKate T1D is walking to help JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes for the millions of children and adults living with this disease.
With T1D, my pancreas stopped producing insulin which is a hormone that our bodies need to turn food into energy. If you have T1D, you must constantly monitor your blood-sugar level, inject or infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully balance these insulin doses with your eating and activity. It's not easy that's for sure!
Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope. I am excited to part of this with my family and friends.
